Lake Study Update

  1. The survey, mapping exercise, and live discussion board (although missing an intro post) are all now active on the project website! This is good!

    1. The consultants strongly encourage the link to the project website to available for all lake users to access. This is the link https://www.wallaceinsights.com/turtlelakestudy#:~:text=The%20study%20aims%20to%20ensure,data%20and%20broader%20community%20input.

  2. One round of water sampling has occurred, no data yet. First round of boat counts will take place over several days this weekend.

It is important for everyone to participate in the preservation of our beautiful lake!!!

Pet Control
It is important to note that not everyone feels comfortable around animals, and some pets may also not be comfortable with other animals. Due to concerns raised with the Hamlet Board regarding pets, residents are reminded of the following:
   •    Pets must be under the owner’s control at all times. This means that while walking a pet, it should be on a leash and under supervision. If in the yard, pets should not approach people passing by.
   •    Pets must remain within the owner's yard and should not roam freely through the Hamlet.
   •    Dogs are not allowed on the beach, including both grass and sand areas. If renting a cabin or having guests, it is the owner's responsibility to inform them of this rule.
   •    Animal waste must be picked up and disposed of in the garbage. It should not be discarded in the flower boxes throughout the Hamlet.
The attached Animal Control Bylaw from the RM of Mervin outlines the rules regarding pets and the penalties for not following the bylaws.

Sunset View Beach Launches Community Website

Welcome to the “New” Sunset View Beach Website!

Before I get into this newsletter, I need to thank Sunset View Beach resident Adrain Bryksa for creating this site for us. Without his help this Board member would still be watching YouTube videos trying to figure it out!

Thanks Adrian!

Why the Website? A number of reasons.

  1. Improved communication with hamlet residents.

    1. Meeting once a year at the AGM and annual newsletter provides very little in ways of timely news and understanding of future projects or community direction being considered.

    2. Proactively keeps residents aware of what's going on in the community.

      • Hamlet meeting minutes

      • Project status updates

      • Initiatives being considered

2. Proactively provides a platform for residents to make better decisions at the AGM.

3. Improved SSVB resident awareness of who, where, what and why activities or practices occur in the hamlet.

  • Waste and Recycle decision process posted

  • Road and street decision process posted

  • Future documents will include AGMs, ERP etc.

4. Improved volunteerism.

5. Provide residents a useful reference tool for common links

  • Local contractors list

  • Waste transfer hours of operation

  • RM of Mervin

  • Water Security Agency

  • Sask Fisheries

  • Maps of the Hamlet, Turtle Lake and Google Map reference for SSVB

6. A venue to gain your insights.

The Sunset View Hamlet Board truly hopes you find the site useful and maybe even interesting from time to time.

The site is new to us as well and will continue to require some refinement. Resident picture utilization and new tabs that would feature local resident interests are presently being worked through and we are confident they will be well received.

With that in mind we will thank you in advance for your patience!

Sunset View Beach Board Seeks Preliminary Approval for Community Activities Area

On August 10th, 2023 the SSVB Board requested an “official approval” from the RM of Mervin Council regarding a Community Activities Area, so as to not again elevate Community expectations and wasted Committee member efforts and time, before acting on the proposed project.

The Community Activities area will not be focused on Pickle-Ball, but have a basketball court and lines placed on it to play everything from badminton to a game of chess.

In addition, the area will be functional for Community dances, movie nights, meetings, etc.

The sole purpose of the area is enhancing community and community spirit.

The Activities area would remain in the same place the denied Community Court had been proposed and be outside required resident notification 75 meters required as per RM of Mervin Policy except for 2 acreage properties to the east.

More to come!
